[복습]Dirty Hands versus “clean Models” 카테고리 없음 2012. 11. 11. 12:411. What is common and different’ between sociology and economics? By comparing them, we can make out the strong points and weak points of each study. It draws which field they can concentrate on efforts or mutual cooperation. The conclusion is , that sociology doesn’t need to amalgamate in economics, but focus on the structural, uneconomic factors that economics can’t catch or ignore in the field of social science.
2. a. Sociology and Economics have different views in the academic field. Like assumptions about human nature, main unit of analysis, concept of society, methods, model characteristics, criteria for validity...etc. Because Sociology has ‘dirty hands’ (complex models and interpretations) some predict Sociological methods are non valuable, but it isn’t true.
b. There wasn’t an accurate preposition about the difference and roles of the two studies before. This study defines and clears out ‘what and where’ economic sociology has to concentrate on than the previous studies.
c. Each study has fundamentally different intellectual bases and traditions. These differences make different views and results in the field of knowledge. In this argument, Sociology focuses on the structure and the influence of the society in different views which economics choose. This make up for the weak points (especially the problems and misses of clean models) But also, these efforts will make better conclusive analysis in the field of social science. The view of the clean model can make the scene narrow, and makes the results far from real experience in the real world. This lack of realistic explanation of rich social factors can be a problem. But straining or imitating one side can block productive conversation and development between the two studies. To solve this, we need a dialectic way.
d. The arguments are usually made by analyzing the fact and views of the two fields. So we can’t see any ‘measuring’ data in this article.

Thoughts: Studies of the Sociologists are more complex comparing to economists. But this point doesn’t always guarantee that the results are more accurate. Sometime the results don’t have any certain meaning or direction, and require too much to the policy drafters. (but it is true that there isn’t an exact solution to solve social problems) Because of this reason, I think the policy managers prefer the clean model of economical methods better. So, Sociologists should give more authentic points. What the people in the community wants, what we can do right now in realistic situations and What choices we can make.. etc. This political measure approach will make more space for sociology to squeeze in.
Question and hypothesis: Is the sociological view actually hard to applicant in policies for its basic complex method? Can it be more fruitful to solve the problems on the society?
